Masakatsu Tagami
Born in 1944 in Yamaguchi, Japan, Tagami graduated from Yamaguchi University in 1967. In 1973, he started watercolour painting during his stay in Tokyo. In 1974, he began painting oil and copperplate engraving. His first exhibition Print Art Exhibition was exhibited at Tokyo Shirota Gallery. In 1982, he moved to Yokohama. In 1986, he started taking up ink painting. In 1990, he moved to Handano (Kanagawa), took up writing with mixed media on paper and continues doing it until today. In 2000, his solo exhibition was held at Tokyo Instit Francais du Japon. In 2006, he moved back to Yamgaguchi. Passionate about drawing and exploring different medium to express, Tagami began oil painting and copperlate engraving. He loves to depict a wide variety of subjects - from abstract paintings to figurative drawings to surreal characters. His works evoke energy, expressive purity and imaginative mystery.
